ADIDAS SHOES - 5 FUN FACTS

• It is said that Adidas got its name from the acronym All Day I Dream About Sport. But of course that is not true. The brand is named after its founder, Adolff Dassler. He composed the name from his nickname, Adi, and the first three letters of his last name.

• The brand was founded in 1949 by Adolf Dassler. But the adventure actually began in 1924, when Dassler founded Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik. However, it had to close when he fell out with his brother, who later founded Puma.

• The sports brand now has millions of dedicated fans all over the world. Some are almost too dedicated! In Boston, there was once a park called Adidas Park. Running in a pair of Puma or Nike sneakers there was not without risk. It often happened that the “forbidden” sneakers were chopped down by Adidas fans. The shoes were then hung up in a tree, where the unfortunate shoe owner had to pick them up later.

• American sports star Jesse Owens wore Adidas shoes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The Olympics were supposed to prove the superiority of the Aryan race. But that wasn't how it worked out. Jesse Owens - the grandson of a black slave - ran with four gold medals. Even in German-made sports shoes! In 1970, Jesse Owens was inducted into the sports Hall of Fame. His records remained unchallenged for almost 50 years. It wasn't until 1984 that Carl Lewis came close to matching the times the star runner had achieved.

• The brand's limited edition Adidas shoes are immediately snapped up by collectors and sneakerheads. The iconic Adidas X Daniel Arsham Futurecraft was designed in collaboration with artist Daniel Arsham. The shoes are of course equipped with the 3D-printed Futurecraft sole.
