History of New Balance

New Balance was created back in 1906 by shoemaker William J. Riley from Boston. Riley had the ambition to help people with foot problems by developing orthopedic insoles that provided better arch support.

The brand first gained international popularity in the 1960s when they started making running shoes. Their most famous running shoe was launched in 1982, the New Balance 990, which at the time was one of the most expensive shoes on the market. This also made the shoes considered desirable and somewhat of a status symbol.

The New Balance 990 model gained great popularity especially for its innovative design, which incorporated stability, support, and flexibility in one shoe. The technology behind this model started as early as 1978, so New Balance spent four years on research and development before they could launch the shoes.

Since 1982, the 990 model has seen several relaunches as New Balance has found new and more innovative technologies in shoe design. Today, the shoes are at least as popular for their stylish design as they are for their excellent comfort.
